Stillwater police Wednesday night arrested five people who they believe assaulted and robbed a 19-year-old in his car at the Holiday gas station at 2500 Orleans St.

The suspects are Jeremy Lee Scott, 22, of Stillwater; Devon Earl Horton, 19, and Vernon Montay Horton, 21, of North St. Paul; Megan Lee Mahoney, 21, of Mahtomedi; and Sara Ann Nicoll, 27, of Coon Rapids. All five were booked into the Washington County Jail on suspicion of aggravated robbery.

According to police, the victim received a call from Scott, who asked to meet him at the gas station. The victim was sitting in his parked car at the gas station at about 6:30 p.m. when Scott got into his car. Shortly thereafter, Vernon Horton entered the vehicle and put the victim in a chokehold. The two assailants reportedly punched the victim in the face and took his cash and car stereo.

During the alleged assault, Devon Horton, Mahoney and Nicoll waited in a nearby silver SUV. After the incident, the two men returned to the vehicle and fled the scene, according to police.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies later spotted the SUV near the intersection of Interstate 694 and Century Avenue. There, the victim identified the suspects.

Stillwater Police investigator Brian Bruchu said it appeared that the suspects intended to use the money to buy drugs, and he expects charges will be filed against them soon.
