Though it hasn't left the dock since coming to Stillwater two weeks ago, St. Croix Boat & Packet's new 100-foot luxury yacht has drawn plenty of stares and a fair number of questions.

Company representatives said they are reluctant to speak about the boat, named the Majestic Star, because they haven't yet decided what to do with it.

"We don't know what we're going to use it for. We're going back and forth. Will it be private? Will it be public? Maybe we'll get lucky and someone will walk down the street tomorrow and offer to buy it for a good price," said Amy Estenson. "I don't want to tell people we have it and then a week later tell them we decided it's not going to work for us."

St. Croix Boat & Packet currently operates a fleet of five riverboats that accommodate anywhere from 50 to 675 people.

According to the company's website, the "super luxury" Majestic Star could fit up to 400 guests and is recommended for "upscale events, weddings, corporate events, business meetings, award dinners or any social function where an original and elegant venue will make the difference."

Estenson said the company purchased the boat for a very good price and brought it to Minnesota from New York without any concrete plans for it.

"Except for a couple of guys who went to look at it when it was in New York, we didn't see it until a couple weeks ago. I haven't even been on it yet," she said this morning. "They're totally gutting it right now. I'm hoping that we'll have a better idea of what our plans will be in a couple of weeks."

With the Majestic Star, St. Croix Boat & Packet has five vessels tied up at Stillwater's municipal docks, the maximum allowed under its lease with the city, according to Stillwater Community Development Director Bill Turnblad.

" Don't kid yourself. Dick makes a pretty penny off those people he brings to town. How much does the city make off that prime dock space? Not nearly as much as they should. I think it's time Dick get a little competition on the riverfront. "

" Dick sure does dress up Stillwater! If he ran for mayor, he'd win by a landslide. And he treats all of his employees well. Thank you, Mr. Anderson. Well done! "
