Legion baseball: Post #48 sweeps South St. Paul

SOUTH ST. PAUL - The Stillwater Legion baseball team improved to 9-2 on Monday after sweeping a Third District League doubleheader from South St. Paul. Post #48 breezed to a 14-0 victory in the opener and followed with a 9-1 triumph in the night cap.
Stillwater is slated to host West St. Paul tonight and travels to River Falls, Wis., for a game on Thursday.

Patrick Rydeen gave up just one hit - a two-out single with two outs in the bottom of the fourth - as Post #48 dominated Game 1, which was shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.
Rydeen, who was pitching on a full week of rest, received plenty of run support as Stillwater extended a three-run lead with six runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth.
Aaron Bunton, Ryan O'Connell and Brandon Schuman each finished with two hits for Stillwater, which totaled 12 in all.

Following the lead of Rydeen in the opener, Matt Garavalia limited South St. Paul to just two hits while striking out 13 in seven innings to lead Post #48 in Game 2. South St. Paul managed just one unearned run off Garavalia as the right-hander improved to 3-1 on the season.
Stillwater jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and pulled away with a five-run fourth inning. Post #48 outhit South St. Paul 12-2 in the game and 24-3 in the twin bill.
Jeremy Gillard paced Stillwater with three hits while Bunton and Jake Schmiesing added two hits apiece.
